Yamamoto Nutrition Carnitine 1000 is a food supplement of Carnitine in 1000 mg tablets (Carnitine tartrate), useful in case of reduced dietary intake of this nutrient. Carnitine is the vitamin-like compound responsible for transporting long-chain fatty acids into the cellular units that produce energy: the mitochondria.

Its importance lies in the fundamental role it plays in the transport of fatty acids in the mitochondria. Since the fatty acid carrier molecule, acyl-CoA, cannot cross the cell membrane of the mitochondria, a carnitine deficiency causes a reduction in the concentration of fatty acids in the mitochondria and, consequently, a reduced energy production. The fatty acids must be transferred from the CoA to the carnitine. The acyl-carnitine molecule transports the fatty acid to the mitochondrial surface of the inner mitochondrial membrane where it releases it to be transformed into energy (the fat is 'burned').

Kamitin performs many other physiological functions, including the conversion of keto-acid analogs of branched-chain amino acids, valine, leeucine and isoleucine, a function extremely prevalent in fasting, starvation and during exercise.
