Yamamoto Research Vitamin K2 + D3 is a food supplement based on high-dose vitamin K2 and vitamin D3. Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting and the maintenance of normal bones*. Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal blood calcium levels, supporting the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Vitamin K2, or menaquinone, is less known than other better known vitamins (such as C or B), and only recently has research been highlighting its primary role. It is a fat-soluble vitamin, belonging to the vitamin K family.
This family of vitamins is divided into: Vitamin K1, also known as "phylloquinone", of vegetable origin, therefore the most present in the normal diet. In fact, it is found in plants and is converted into vitamin K2 in the body, so this form is considered the least effective because it depends on the conversion into the "more active" K2 form, to guarantee a significant action. Vitamin K2, or "menaquinone", of bacterial origin, essential for bone health. In particular, Vitamin K2 MK-4 is found in meat, eggs and dairy products, and Vitamin K2 MK-7, the most studied form of vitamin K, is essential for normal blood clotting and the maintenance of normal bones. It is the most bioavailable, rapidly absorbed and metabolised by the body. This form of vitamin K is found in "grass-feed" meat (that is, naturally grass-fed, on pasture), in fermented soybeans (natto), typical of Japanese food, or in fermented cheeses (yogurt with live cultures, kefir).
It is therefore rather difficult to find in a modern and Western diet, based on different types of foods. Vitamin K3 (water soluble menadione), of synthetic origin, useful in regulating the blood coagulation process. The supplement uses the form of vitamin K2-MK7 "MenaQ7", the only clinically tested patent on the market, the most used in growing research *, with the support of various quality certifications (including in 2015 at the NutrAward as " Best Functional Ingredient") and produced according to the highest safety standards. The precious beneficial effects of this fundamental vitamin are emerging from scientific research more and more evident, in particular on the cardiovascular sphere and on bone health, but not only.
This vitamin, “discovered” at the end of the 90s, is produced by the bacteria of the intestinal flora, giving rise to various groups of molecules, including the long-chain menaquinones, the most active form. The effect of Vitamin K2 on normal blood coagulation is due to its ability to activate MGP (Matrix Gla Protein) which, by binding the calcium circulating in the blood, prevents its precipitation in the form of crystals in the arterial wall, thus avoiding the formation of atheromatous plaques together with cholesterol. At the bone level, in fact, vitamin K2 slows down the action of the cells responsible for bone resorption (osteoclasts), activating at the same time osteocalcin, a protein that stimulates the adhesion-fixation of calcium to the bone tissue and in the teeth, making it more resistant and flexible. The synergy obtained from the association with vitamin D3 is evident, deliberately included in our supplement to make support for bones and teeth even more effective. In the midst of the vast world of food supplements, the supplement based on vitamin K2 and D3 derives from the numerous scientific researches supporting this synergy. As a nutraceutical, it is in fact increasingly recognized and respected by the medical profession, for supporting the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and normal blood clotting.
