Biotin also known as vitamin B7 in the Anglo-Saxon nomenclature, is known as pure vitamin H, but it is possible that you hear it called Vitamin B8 (German nomenclature), or with only the name of Biotin.
It acts as a "coenzyme" necessary for the metabolism of fatty acids, amino acids and glucose, this means that when we eat foods with the presence of fats, proteins or carbohydrates, Biotin must necessarily be present in the body for the conversion to take place and the use of these macronutrients in energy useful for physical and mental activity.
Biotin is very important both for the epidermis and the scalp, as well as intervening to regulate the normal mechanism of the marrow. Biotin also plays a very important role in maintaining a young and attractive appearance on an aesthetic level, supporting skin health, and in particular by intervening in strengthening nails and hair. It is commonly added in beauty products for hair and skin, although absorption through the skin is not particularly effective and oral ingestion is the basic choice to enjoy its best benefits and it is always found very widespread in the form of food supplement along with other beneficial cofactors for the health of hair, nails and epidermis.
Biotin is therefore necessary to maintain the health of skin, hair and nails and to deal with and counteract certain symptoms of imbalance such as thinning (N.B. it has no anti-hair loss action), hair fragility and breakage or during phases of particular stress with the presence of dermatitis that make the skin dry and irritated. In the dermatological field we find other benefits of biotin such as the protection of the skin from acne, fungal infections, skin rashes and severe dryness and flaking. No cases of toxicity or side effects were recorded. Biotin levels can be compromised if you are on antiepileptic drugs, oral antibiotics or if you have a digestive tract disorder that could destroy the normal intestinal flora. Even some medicines prescribed for the treatment of acne can reduce the activity of Vitamin B7.
