Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid which in recent times is finding more and more use in the world of performance, once limited only to "anaerobic" activities or in the world of body building, today it is also rapidly spreading in the world of endurance given its many proven benefits. Citrulline performs important functions in the body as a key intermediate in the urea cycle, where it eliminates superfluous amino groups. The urea cycle is a cycle of biochemical reactions which produces urea starting from ammonia, which is "toxic" to the body and whose accumulation hinders the formation of muscle glycogen and favors the onset of tiredness. Hence the production of urea, enhanced by the introduction of Citrulline, is essential for the elimination of these toxic substances that pollute the performance of athletes, whether it is anaerobic or aerobic, leading to a massive production of ammonia. But another powerful characteristic of Citrulline concerns the effects on vasodilation which are very useful for every athlete.
Once taken, citrulline is converted into L-arginine, which produces nitric oxide (NO), a powerful molecule that dilates blood vessels to allow working muscles to receive more oxygen and nutrients and at the same time remove waste metabolic. Here this action on the blood flow translates into an improvement in performance and in the same recovery and in many respects, and it does it in a better, more efficient and more prolonged way than L-arginine itself as a direct precursor of nitric oxide which meets a strong enzymatic degradation by arginases. Why is Citrulline Malate superior to plain L-Citrulline? Citrulline Malate combines the amino acid Citrulline with Malate, an organic salt and plays an important role in numerous biochemical reactions, in particular with regard to muscle tissue where it reveals a higher addition than Citrulline alone, as malic acid is a major component in the tricarboxylic cycle (TCA), the process by which our body produces energy, and this combination has been shown to result in greater efficacy in terms of vasodilation, performance and recovery from the DOMS.
Therefore supplementation before L-Citrulline Malate performance:
For these reasons, supplementation with citrulline malate is increasingly recommended for athletes of all sports to promote more intense and prolonged performance, while at the same time promoting better muscle recovery.
